Attacks on UN peacekeepers in Equanter

UN troops have been deployed in Equanter to protect the border from any infiltration by Malatian troops.

The rising tension between Malatia and its neighbours takes a turn for the worse yesterday when gunmen attacked and kill four UN peacekeepers on duty in the Eastern Province of Equanter.

The four peacekepers were killed when masked gunmen attacked three UN observation posts along the Equanterian border with Malatia last night.

The heavily armed gunmen managed to overrun three UN posts along the border and were heading to the town of Smallville.

Equanterian troops from the nearby army barrack managed to stop and repel the gunmen after heavy gunbattle lasting until early this morning. The  Equanterian army claimed 45 gunmen were killed in gunbattles around Smallville. There are no reports on casualties on the Equanterian side.

The attacks sent jitters to the residents of Equanter, which had just recovered from a short civil war a few months ago.
