Residents in the peaceful city of Legotown were rocked by street battles last night on Christmas Eve. Gunmen from the El Chapone gang has attacked the Kingdom of Lego Royal Palace as the Royal Family was celebrating Christmas dinner.

The fate of King Arius and Crown Prince Arius II is unknown.

The Royal Family had gathered in the Royal Palace in Legotown as part of the customary family dinner on Christmas Eve. However at around 8 pm, the  Royal Family was evacuated to an unknown location by security officials after several  jeeps with gunmen attacked the palace from several directions.

Members of the Royal Guards  returned fire, and officers from the Police Special Command were sent to the scene to fight the attackers.

After two hours of gunfight, several attackers surrendered and upon investigation, they were found to be members of the El Chapone gang. El Chapone, who is a close business associate of Prime Minister Rito Wingo, is currently in prison for tax avoidance.

Wingo immediately blamed the attack on the Royal Family. "Without the King, this attack would not have taken place. The monarchy should be abolished," said Wingo.

The gunmen were heavily armed and some were equipped with anti-tank weapons and rocket launchers. They managed to destroy two police cars and a guard post at the Royal Palace before being repulsed by the Royal Guards.

The opposition Royal Party has called for the police to investigate Wingo and his connection with the El Chapone gang. Some opposition members believed that the attack on the Royal Palace was masterminded by Wingo himself.

Meanwhile, the Police has stepped up checks around the Royal Palace and throughout the city. The Royal Armed Forces of Lego (RAFL) has offered to deploy troops for internal security but the Police has turned down the offer.
