Breaking News: Suvanese Troops Occupy Balklands Island

​​Balklands Island, located some 24 km from Suva and 15 km from Malatia, was occupied by the Suvanese military. 


The Kingdom of Suva, at the urging of Rito Wingo who is the hardliner Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lego, claimed Balklands Island as part of its territory.

The Kingdom of Suva, at the urging of Wingo, claimed that Balklands Island was covered by the Peace Agreement that ended the recent regional war. The Peace Agreement allows NARTO countries to annex Malatian territories which led to the creation of the Kingdom of Brikvania.

Malatia however disputed the Suvanese claim, and urged Suva to pull out its troops from the island.

"Balklands Island is not covered by the Peace Agreement and is always part of Malatia," said a Malatian military spokesman.

Balklands Island is a small island with some 500 residents who are mostly fishermen. There is a small airport and town. The island is strategic as it covers the approach to the Malatian northern coast. 

Late last night, Suvanese troops landed on the island and occupied key buildings, including the Mayor's office. Two local Malatian policemen, who were sleeping in their office,  were detained along with the Mayor who was caught while having his supper.

According to one resident of the island, he observed that some of the Suvanese troops were actually Legos, who had donned Suvanese military uniform to cover the Kingdom of Lego's involvement in the occupation of the island.

The Kingdom of Suva has warned the local residents to leave the island by the end of the month, and has also invited the Kingdom of Lego to deploy its troops on the island, to which Wingo has agreed to. Wingo said that the Kingdom of Lego will send a few thousand troops to the island to support Suva's claim.

Other NARTO countries did not support the Suvanese occupation of the island and believed the Suvanese acted on behalf of Wingo, who wanted to provoke Malatia into another regional war.

Malatia has not taken any action on the ground yet, and has chosen diplomacy  to de-escalate the tension. Malatia has approached the United Nations Security Council for help to mediate the crisis.
