Brikvanian Defence Ministry Announces Security Measures

The Brikvanian Defence Ministry announced that security measures in the Malatian Province will be increased in the face of more armed attacks on security forces in the province.

Brigadier General Luke Walker, Commander of the 1st Regiment Brikvanian Army, briefed the media last night on the situation in the Malatian Province.

"We have reports that Malatian agents are operating in the Malatian Province, and they have encouraged the locals to take up arms against the central government in Briktown", said BG Walker.

"His Royal Highness King Brik has given the army the permission to enforce martial law in the province", added BG Walker.

The Malatian Province of Brikvania has been rocked by unrests and protests against the central government of Briktown since one month ago. Since the past one week, armed gunman have launched attacks on police posts and army bases in the province, resulting in 30 Brikvanian troops and policemen killed in action.

The Btikvanian government confirmed that they have lost control of all the border crossings between Brikvania and Malatia to unknown gunmen.

The Malatian Province Home Guards have refused King Brik II's direction to quell the protests and unrests. The central government in Briktown therefore had no choice but to decide to send in the Armed Forces of Brikvaia (AFBv) into the province.

AFBv spokesman said that between 2 to 3 regiments will be sent into the Malatian Province soon. However, the AFBv does not have enough trucks to transport the troops at once. The AFBv troops do not have sufficient arms and helmets too.

The Legonian government has pledged assistance and has provided intelligence reports to the Brikvanians. According to a Legonian official, some 200 Malatian troops are already operating inside Brikvania, delivering arms to ethnic Malatian groups.

In Malatia, the Malatian government warned Brikvania not to harm ethnic Malatians. "We have a duty to protect our brothers in Brikvania", warned a Malatian military spokesman.
