Election 2020: Parties Attack Each Other In The Last Lap

As the election campaign in Legonia is coming to an end, the two largest parties stepped up their attack on each other. Snitch Brickonell, leader of Party United Bricks (PUB), had spoken in rallies across three different constituencies in a last ditch effort to shore up supports for his party.

Survey reveals a tight race between the PUB and the Royal Party (RP). The PUB  is gaining ground, leading in 53 out of the 120 constituencies contested. The RP has a slight lead with a possible win of 54 seats. However, 10 of the 54 seats are in swing constituencies where supports for the Royal Family  are low. 

Speaking in the constituency of Caslanca, Snitch continued to attack the Royal Party (RP) under Sir Winston Mofty. 

"The RP will only serve the interests of the Royal Family, not the voters.  My party the PUB will make sure we will check the powers of the Royal Family, but also a smaller government that will not intrude into your life", said Snitch.

"We will give power back to the people. We want you to have a choice, and you make a choice for your healthcare and education, not the government", added Snitch.

In a counter-attack on Snitch, Sir Mofty told a rally that Snitch's proposal for a smaller government and cutback on welfare expenditures will increase the gap between the poor and the rich.

Sir Mofty said: " If you look at Snitch's claim that a smaller government will give you more choices. This is false.  If you have low income and are heavily taxed, what choices do you have? Can you make a choice on which insurance to buy, or which school to go to, when you do not have the money to make the choice in the first place".

In a sharp attack on Snitch and the PUB, Sir Mofty pointed out that "Snitch and his party claims to give you choices. This is false promise. His party is pro-elite, placing more taxes on the poor and less taxes on the rich. The rich have choices - they choose the best insurance, the best school and the best holiday destinations. For the poor like us, where are our choices? We are stuck. Vote for a change. Vote the Royal Party". 

He added: "The Royal Party's stand is that we will work hard to make sure the economy expands, and the benefits go to the voters instead of the elite few.  We will also ensure for voters who do not have the money to buy health insurance, they are covered by national healthcare system, for voters who could not afford to send their children for higher education, the state will support them. All Bricks must support and help one another".

In a sign of escalating tension, the Police has confirmed a few arrests relating to the election have been made within the last 24 hours.

"Four persons were arrested last night for vandalising election posters", said a police statement. The Police said that it is reviewing the security protocols for the voting in view of credible information of possible threats to the peaceful voting process.
