Fences Up Along the Border: Brikvanian Police

​The Royal Brikvania Police Service (RBPS) has confirmed that security fences have been set up along the border with Malatia.

​The Kingdom shares some 200 km of border with Malatia, and in some areas, there are still disputes on the actual border point.

According to a RBPS spokesman, the fences are put in place to prevent smuggling of weapons from Malatia into Brikvania.

There were 10 attempts to smuggle weapons from Malatia into Brikvania's Malatian Province. "We were lucky as the United Nations troops patrolling the border caught the smugglers," added the spokesman.

Many ethnic Malatians, who made up about 25% of the Brikvanian population, were unhappy about the fences. "I used to cross over the border to Malatia to visit my friends and have a cheaper cuppa, but with the fences up, I have to queue at the border checkpoint," said Thesally Maltia, an ethnic Malatian residing close to the border.

Many ethnic Malatian view Brikvania as an illegal country, and it should return to Malatia. However the Provincial Government of Malatian Province is made up of the Royal Party, which is pro-Brikvanian. The Royal Party supports the central government efforts to secure the border.

As the fences are up, many residents along the border set to resign about lack of cheap coffee. "Look like there is no more cheap coffee for me across the border," added Thesally.
