Legonia Seeks To Increase Defence Budget

The Kingdom of Legonia has announced that it will increase its defence budget by 25% in the next financial year.

Most of the extra cash will go to military equipment, but also to military assistance program to other countries in the Bricks region.

It is estimated the new defence budget will be about $40 billion Bricks dollars. Some $15 billion is set aside for new combat aircraft and air defence system.

The Legonian government claimed that the higher defence spending is necessary given the new threats posed by Malatia.

"We have seen how Malatia had intervened in Brikvania and almost destroy the small kingdom. The Legonian armed forces must be ready to defend the Bricks region against totalitarian state like Malatia," said Prime Minister Sir Winston Mofty.

The Legonian Defence Ministry has recently announced that it was considering to provide military assistance to the Kingdom of Brikvania. The assistance will include weapons and military uniform. 

There are plans to provide the Brikvanian with better patrol boats to defend Brikvanian water. 

The Kingdom of Suva, a member of the NARTO military alliance, has also requested military assistance to strengthen its military.

However, Sir Mofty efforts to increase the defence budget is facing opposition in Parliament. The Legonian Parliament is looking at spending more money for education and lowering  the tax rate.
