New Green Deal: Government Moves To Green Energy

The Legonian Government is embarking on a massive project to move Legonia's economy away from fossil fuel towards green energy.

Prime Minister Sir Winston Mofty announces the new economic package, dubbed as the New Green Deal, in parliament yesterday.

Sir Mofty said that the government needs to be less reliant on income from fossil fuels. Currently, 35% of Lenogian economy relies on fossil fuel industry, but Sir Mofty aims to reduce this to 20% in ten years time.

"We need to encourage our citizens to shift to electrical vehicles, reduce our energy consumption and use more renewable energy. We have rising sea water affecting our coastal communities, so we must act now", said Sir Mofty.

As a start, the Royal Armed Forces of Legonia (RAFL) will shift to renewable energy for energy supplies to its bases within  the next 5 years. 

On the infrastructure front, the government will work with the construction industry to build environment-friendly bricks. These bricks will also be exported to other Bricks nations. All new bridges and infrastructural projects will utilise environment-friendly bricks.

The government estimates these projects will lead to 45,000 new jobs in Legonia itself. The government will also subsidise salary of workers in green energy projects. This will add an additional 5,000 jobs into the market. 

Another 12,000-15,000 new jobs will come from the electrical vehicle projects. The government intends to build 2 manufacturing plants to produce electrical vehicles for the regions. A total of 1,500 charging stations need to be built and maintained. 

When questioned by backbenchers on the the total cost of the New Green Deal, Sir Mofty said the government estimated the New Green Deal will cost the government about $250 billion Bricks dollars over ten years.

"This is an investment for our Bricks future, and prepare the kingdom to take advantage of the global economic situation", said Sir Mofty.
