AFE troops checking drives and passengers of vehicles trying to enter Eastern Province. The Armed Forces of Equanter (AFE) announced a major military offensive has taken place to recapture the fallen town of Smallville from the hand of rebels.
Codenamed "Operation Royal Liberation", the major offensive started yesterday night with artillery shelling and bombardment from helicopter gunships on rebel's positions. This was followed by ground troops moving into rebel-held territories early this morning. The troops were backed by tanks and armoured vehicles, and moving from three forward positions. The main body of the offensive moved out from Maname Airport, which has been the congregation points for government forces in Eastern Province.
The military offensive is led by troops from 101 Royal Guards Battalion, supported by elements from the armoured, mechanised and artillery units of the AFE.
Early reports indicated that rebels from the Inglorious State in Lego (ISIL) had put up fierce resistance along Highway M1, the main route linking Maname to Smallville. AFE troops initial progress has been slow, and elements of the Kings Own Regiment have been pinned down by enemy's machine gun positions around Norwood, a village located outside Smallville as of 10 am today. However helicopter gunships from the Royal Equanter Air Force (REAF) managed to destroy rebel's positions in the afternoon - allowing the ground troops to proceed towards Smallville.
As of 5 pm today, heavy fighting are reported across all fronts around Smallville, with some government forces are reported to be within 4 km from Smallville town centre.
