Rebels Gained More Territories

Rebels forces entering a major town in the Malatian Province of Brikvania.

Rebels from the Malatian Province of Brikvania have pushed back government forces across all fronts. 

Reports from the frontline indicated government forces have suffered heavy casualties.

Several key towns and a key city in the Malatian Province have been captured by ethnic Malatian rebels. The rebels' victories were announced through Radio Malatia early this morning.

There has been no confirmation or statement from the Brikvanian Defence Ministry. A few weeks ago, troops from the Armed Forces of Brikvania (AFBv) were disptached to Malatian Province to supress the unrests. However, heavy fighting between ethnic Malatians and AFBv troops have been taking place since then.

On several fronts, AFBv troops were outgunned and outnumbered by the rebels, who are armed with modern weapons. In the town of Songra, 200 AFBv troops were surrounded by some 700 rebels. AFBv forces launched heavy artillery bombardment to rescue the trapped troops.

Heavy fighting since the last one week has taken its toll on AFBv. It has lost some 45 armoured vehicles, with 300 troops killed. Another 120 were captured by the rebels.

Brikvania has accused Malatia of providing arms and men to the rebels. Malatia however has denied the accusation, claiming that any Malatian citizens fighting in the Brikvanian territories are doing it on their own.

"We could not stop them if they would like to fight alongside their brothers in Brikvania", said a Malatian Defence Ministry spokesman. 

There are concerns in Briktown, the Brikvanian capital, that the rebels might march all the way down to the capital city. The AFBv troops are running low on ammunitions, and many of their armoured vehicles are damaged and non-operational.

Brikvania has approached Legonia for military assistance, but Legonia has turned down the request.
