Songha-class Submarines Turn Operational: Malatian Navy

The new Songha-class submarines of the Malatian Navy has turned operational.

The Malatian Navy flotilla of Songha-class submarines are now operational. These submarines will replace the old and obsolete Ruskha-class submarines which have been in operation since the 1980s.

The news on the Songha-class submarines was announced unexpectedly by the Malatian Defence Ministry last night.

The Malatian Defence Ministry announced that a total of 6 Songha-class submarines will be operational. The announcement caught many regional countries by surprise as Malatia had not mentioned about its submarine-program before. 

The submarines are named after the mystical Malatian Warrior named Songha, who had fought against colonial powers during the 19th century colonial era.

The deployment of the Songha-class submarines violated the term of agreement signed at the end of the last regional war. In that agreement, Malatia undertook not to develop submarine capabilities. 

The Non-Aggression Royalists Treaty Organisation (NARTO) had issued a statement condemning the move by Malatia to launch the submarines. 

"Malatia has clearly violated the term of the Peace Agreement that ended the last regional war", said the statement.

In reply to the NARTO's statement, Malatian Foreign Affairs Ministry said that Malatia has the right to defend itself, and develop the military technology and capabilities to do so.
