Suvanese resistance along its border with Malatia had collapsed in the face of overwhelming invading forces. |
The invasion of Suva started with heavy bombardment of Suvanese military installations throughout the country in the early hours of the morning. About 80 Malatian warplanes took part in the offensive, resulting in a casualty of 45 deaths and more than 200 injured. On the ground, elements of RSA 1st and 3rd Rifle Company put up resistance along the border when Malatian troops began pouring across the border. Anti-tank weapons were deployed and 4 Malatian tanks were damaged during the initial assault. However, Malaitan warplanes took out the RSA's positions and the defenders retreated after 4 hours of heavy fighting.
