Wingo Charged In High Court For Corruption

Legonia's former hardliner Prime Minister  Rito Wingo has been produced in Royal High Court this morning on charges of corruptions. Wingo is charged for receiving money from the El Chapone criminal gang  in his election campaign.

Wingo's lawyer claimed that the charges are politically motivated and was confidence that all the charges will be dropped. 

Wingo arrived in High Court from the city detention centre under heavy police escort. Several heavily armed police officers were seen to be escorting him from the police vehicle to the back entrance of the High Court.

The roads leading to the High Court were closed to traffic and some 20 riot police officers were seen on standby. 

There were reports that some 100 Wingo's supporters might turn up in court. However only 30 supporters were spotted in the High Court.

WIngo's lawyer had requested for him to be released on bail but the request was denied by the presiding judge. The Royal Prosecutor has applied for Wingo to be detained further in the  City  Detention Centre to which the judge agreed.

The Royal Prosecutor informed that El Chapone will be produced in court in two weeks time as a prosecution witness against Wingo.
